How do I become a member?
COME HOME: BECOMING A MEMBER OF TMBC
Have you found a home at TMBC? Are you ready to take the next step and become a member? To become a TMBC disciple one must declare that desire by approaching the altar during the invitation to Christian discipleship and expressing your intent to one of our deacons. Each candidate is interviewed so that one's spiritual condition can be assessed. There are three ways to be presented for membership:
- Baptism: One is inspired under the power of the Holy Spirit to denounce his or her submission to sin and evil, and through that same unction, expresses a desire to commit to Christ (Romans 10:9). Upon completion of the New Disciple's Orientation Class, one's name is submitted for baptism.
- Letter: One was previously a member in good standing in a Baptist congregation, and now chooses to unite with this fellowship. When one expresses the desire to join, a letter is sent to the previously attended church so that one's status can be confirmed.
- Christian Experience: In cases where communication with one's previous church is not possible, or those who are joining from a different denomination, this designation affirms their Christian pilgrimage which now continues with us.
Every membership candidate is required to attend our New Disciple's Orientation Class which prepares new disciples to operate within the structure of our church. Candidates will learn about TMBC's rich history, TMBC's overall mission and vision, Christian discipleship essentials, and a spiritual gifts assessment. Upon the successful completion of our 4 week New Disciple's Orientation Class, candidates are presented as a group to the church for consideration. Upon the affirmative vote of the congregation candidates are given all the rights and privileges of full membership.
PROFILE OF A MEMBER OF TMBC
After all is said and done, WHAT DOES AN ACTIVE TMBC MEMBER LOOK LIKE? First of all, we want to encourage "healthy involvement" in the ministries, programs, and activities of TMBC. We fully acknowledge that there are members in good standing who, due to a variety of reasons, may not be involved to the degree that we are recommending. This is in no way due to a lack of spirituality or vision or commitment on their part. It may be due to age, physical condition, or other extraordinary circumstances. No matter what one's level of participation is, we want every member to feel cared for and encouraged to use their gifts to whatever degree they are able.
Having said this, based upon our vision of "Moving Toward Excellence in Worship, Fellowship, Discipleship, and Stewardship", here is what and active member of TMBC looks like:
1. Attending church regularly on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings (WORSHIP).
2. Involved in opportunities to be known and cared for in small group activities that build up the church and where people are using their gifts to meet the needs of others (FELLOWSHIP).
3. Systematically trained in Bible Institute and Sunday School to develop a real, personal, and sustaining relationship with Jesus Christ (DISCIPLESHIP).
4. Faithful in giving to advance TMBC's witness and personally involved in one on-going ministry task directed toward using one's gifts to reach unbelievers in the community (STEWARDSHIP).
