8/30/2009 -- When God Cuts Your #1 Draft Pick

2 Samuel 6:1-14

Decisions, decisions, decisions!  There are many talented prospective players that made it through preseason football, but week 3 is cut week.  I can only imagine what decisions coaches have had to make cutting players - though they had the talent and drive to play - so they could field the best team on opening day.  There are some issues, people, memories, pains, habits, they play a significant role in our spiritual lives, that sometimes God has to cut out and cut away so our spiritual offense and defense is prepared to meet the challenges of life.  This sermon critically examines the story of David and Uzzah, and how God "cut" him from David's team.  However, in the process, it strengthens David's commitment to God and his resolve to lead Israel as both priest and king.

8/23/2009 -- The Bears Ate The Children

2 Kings 2:23-25

Though the title sounds like a Mother Goose Fairy Tale gone horribly wrong, this Old Testament story warns of the consequences which wait for those who remain unprotected outside the city gates.  This sermon speaks to the sensibilities of both parents and children as they embark on yet another school year in a wilderness of drug abuse, gang violence, sexual promiscuity, alternative lifestyles, and other pathological behaviors that threaten the spiritual development and well-being of our children and their families.  Listen close.  It's good stuff!

8/16/2009 -- The Danger of a Complaining Spirit

Part 2

Numbers 11

Many times we can be our own worst enemy when we spend time complaining.  This sermon uses an event in the lives of Moses and Children of Israel to illustrate how complaining can reinforce negative behaviors, and prevent us from experiencing the sufficiency of God in the midst of trying times.
